Chapel Programs
The chapel programs at HCHS are designed to point students to the timeless Truth of God's Word and to the grace of an Almighty Savior, Jesus Christ. Weekly gatherings include student-led worship to engage the heart and a time for our community to experience God's presence in the midst of our busy lives. As a non-denominational Christian school, programming is diverse and includes outside speakers, dramas, video-based discussions, varied liturgy and testimonials. Some of the speakers in previous years included former Green Bay Packer, Mike McCoy; State Representative, Larry Taylor; Evangel University's Concert Choir; The Cody Jones Band; The Invisible Children Team and others. Students have an opportunity to help create a program, because every Bible Class hosts a chapel during the year. This encourages leadership, diversity and creativity as students choose a theme and share their gifts in leading chapel. HCHS also has a Christian partnership with local youth pastors whose students attend HCHS. Each year, lives are changed through the involvement of these "community shepherds" on campus.
Christianity is the greatest intellectual system the mind of man has ever touched.

Mentoring Program
For 2008-2009 we will continue to have "Junior Mentors", upperclassmen willing to take on a leadership role in 9th and 10th grade mentor groups. The mentoring program offers the HCHS student a small-group connection, providing an informal setting for regular sharing and discussion of life's challenges. Mentor groups meet with a faculty advisor for monthly Mentoring Meetings, and will spend special time praying for one another during chapel and throughout the year. Mentor groups also provide a venue for leadership focus as part of the Passport to Lead Program.
Spiritual and Mission Emphasis Weeks
Each fall semester HCHS holds a Spiritual Emphasis Week (SEW) to challenge our campus to grow in following Christ! The Spiritual Life Committee (SLC) develops a theme, invites speakers and creates a program based on where we sense God is calling our community. This year SEW will be Sept. 24-26, 2008.
Missions Emphasis Week (MEW) occurs Feb. 2-5, 2009 and is designed to help students to think past our cultural microcosm, focusing instead on Christ's call to reach the nations with the Gospel. The Missions Committee—made up of students, teachers, and local missionaries—develops a theme, invites missionary speakers, and creates a program based on where we sense God is calling our community. Missionaries bring vision and testimony about what God is doing beyond our walls, and all are challenged to consider the path of humble service. Each Missions Emphasis Week includes an offering for support of a specific mission.
Community Service Day
Each Spring Semester during Missions Emphasis Week HCHS runs a community-wide service day. Mentor groups are assigned to one of over 30 different sites around the Houston area for a full day of service to our community. We partner with organizations like the Fifth Ward Pregnancy Center, Brookwood Community, End Hunger Network, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and others in order to expose our students to the needs of our community and to challenge them to develop a lifestyle of service using the gifts and resources that God has given them.
